SLL 115 Writers from Granada (3) [Autores literarios granadinos] A detailed study of Granada writers from the period immediately after the conquest of Granada (Renaissance) and its annexation to Castile to the present. Studies the relationship between the authors and the city and province of Granada. January Session course.
This course was one in which I was able to learn about the city that I was studying abroad in through literature. It was interesting because we read about authors from the 13th century until the present. Through this class, I was able to learn about how the city transformed as history continued. This class was very fast paced so we focused on a few authors and read some of their most popular works. We would focus on one author, read a biography about them, read one of their texts and have in class discussions about how all of those things tied together. It was so interesting to see how every author became an author and how their works connected with everything that was going on in their lives at that given time.
There were times at the beginning of the semester when this class was more challenging because the texts were much older and difficult to comprehend. However, any confusions I had about the texts or what the authors were trying to convey were answered in class when we would have discussions.
For myself, this class was a way for me to connect all of the things I was seeing in my host city come to life through their history from different literature. I felt the city coming to life after having taken this class.
Below, I have attached the short essay I wrote about one of my favorite poets, Federico Garcia Lorca his life and one of his short stories.
