Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors.
This class was where I really had the opportunity to add everything I had learned from all of my Spanish courses and put them into one big project. When I first began, I didn’t have the most clear idea of what I was going to write about or what my project would be. In fact, I felt like I was an imposter in a major that wasn’t meant for me. Now, reflecting on this all at the end of the end of the semester, I realize that although it was challenging, I was meant to do this project. I was originally going to write about Chicano authors and their influence on people who have dual American and Latino identities. Although this is a topic that I am interested in, when I was trying to create an abstract and complete a literature review, I realized that I had a lot of trouble in doing so. I started thinking back on the classes that I had previously taken and remembered that I really loved reading “Axolotl” and learning about Julio Cortázar. That’s when the inspiration hit me and I decided that I wanted to write about his short stories for my Capstone. This class has been challenging. Sometimes, I questioned why I decided to add this as a second major and felt like I didn’t have what it takes to do this. Thankfully, I had the support from Dr. Fernández and I felt like I was capable of completing the project and that my research was worth it. I am really proud of my project and I have worked so hard to complete it and learn as much as I could. This capstone project is one that really made me feel fluent in Spanish at a collegiate level which isn’t something I would have ever imagined myself doing in the past. I am so grateful to have had the support to make this project possible. Through my project I have even had the opportunity to learn more about concepts, like ontology, that I didn’t really know about before. To view my capstone project, please click the link below. |
