SLL 109 Spanish Grammar III (Superior) (3) [Gramática del español III(superior)] More advanced (superior) use of Spanish grammar. Complex structures and word usage. Systematic exposition of Spanish grammar with emphasis on topics that present difficulties for foreign speakers.
Grammar is so important when writing in any language and is pivotal to become a better writer. In Spanish, grammar can be pretty complex because it’s very different compared to in English. I grew up speaking Spanish at home, but never really learned the grammar until I got to high school and began to take courses. Even then, I had a lot of trouble understanding things which is extremely common among people who were raised speaking Spanish in a non-Spanish speaking country. In this class, I had the opportunity to be among 5 other native Spanish speakers who were having the same struggles as myself. We covered complex structures and word usage. The professor worked individually with us to see what need we needed met and to allow us to take a more important role in our learning process. This class was challenging for me. We covered such complex topics and I learned a lot of new vocabulary that I never really processed before. At the beginning of the semester, the professor would ask me why I picked a specific tense for a word. At that time, I didn’t know how to explain my reasoning. I would only say, “It sounded right.” At the end of the semester, I was capable of explaining my reasoning based on the grammatical rules and sentence structure.
For this class, I don’t have any form of evidence. We mainly completed worksheets that we submitted to the professor. I was unable to bring those back after studying abroad logistically based on the luggage space that I had left over.
